Jewelry Care and Cleaning Tips
Prevent Tarnish
-
Store in an airtight container or as I often suggest, in a plastic zip locking bag. You can include an anti-tarnish strip for added measure.
-
Do not swim, bathe or shower in jewelry. Chlorine, salt and other chemicals can cause jewelry to tarnish.
-
Chemicals wreak havoc on jewelry. So, be careful with perfumes, lotions and oils. Wipe off jewelry with a soft cloth after use to clean away makeup, perfume, lotions or oils.
-
You shouldn't exercise in silver jewelry as the salt in perspiration can cause tarnishing but if you do, just be sure to remove and clean after.
Cleaning Tips
-
Mild soap and warm water is your friend! Using a soft bristle toothbrush, you can clean silver jewelry for routine maintenance after wear to remove any chemicals, lotions, perfumes and body oils. Be sure to dry thoroughly.
-
Clean silver jewelry with a jewelry grade silver polishing cloth.
-
Chemicals can ruin the polish on a stone. So avoid using harsh chemicals and cleaners especially on pieces with gemstones. Stick to mild soap and warm water.
-
Guess what? Glass beads can also be cleaned with mild soap and warm water using a soft bristle toothbrush.
Daily Wear Tips
-
Glass beads have been kiln annealed for durability but that doesn't mean to take a hammer to them! Still treat them with care.
-
All artisan-made jewelry has had many hours of thought and care go into designing and making each piece so just treat it as you would want to be treated and it will last a long time.
